Many keyboards aim for simplicity and take up as little space on your desk as possible. The longer you type, the more important the choice of a keyboard, and there seem to be more choices today than ever. It may not be quite as good as the Logitech MX Keys, but it’s fairly close and more affordable.Despite advances in voice and handwriting recognition, we spend much of the day at our computer typing on a keyboard.

The key pitch is a bit tight, but I soon got used to the layout and my typing was back at full speed and accuracy before very long. Verdict: This is a great little Bluetooth keyboard with backlit keys, a numeric keypad and the ability to work with up to three different devices. The keyboard features a numeric keypad in a compact US layout. It's ideal for people who use more than one computing device on the same desk. There are three Bluetooth pairing buttons and pressing them connects the keyboard to another device. Now that’s what I call epic customer support. Within 24 hours a brand-new keyboard with the revised firmware had left San Diego, crossed the Atlantic Ocean, and was sitting on my desk in England.

The problem was isolated to some code in the keyboard’s firmware and they immediately set to work modifying code. However, the engineers didn’t give up and after many hours of testing with various Mac models, they eventually managed to reproduce the issue. The techs in San Diego replied within the hour and tried to replicate the issue without success. In sheer desperation, I contacted Satechi’s support department to raise the issue. Alas, nothing I’d tried in the past would stop the keyboard from constantly rewakening my iMac. Now, I’ve experienced this behavior once before on an older Apple wireless keyboard so I tried troubleshooting the issue.
I soon noticed that when I put my iMac into sleep mode when taking break, the keyboard would wake my iMac up immediately. Helpfully, the keyboard enters sleep mode after 30 minutes of inactivity to save battery and can be woken up by pressing any key.Īnd now to something that impressed me during my review of this neat little keyboard. If the backlight is turned off, then the keyboard can work wirelessly for ages before it needs refueling.
Once the internal battery is fully charged, the keyboard is good to go for around a week’s worth of typing with the backlight engaged. Fortunately, the keyboard can be charged while it’s being used and it takes between two to three hours for a full load using one of the two USB-C cables supplied in the box theres a USB-C to USB-C as well as a USB-C to USB-A cable.

The keyboard needs to be charged if it’s being used wirelessly, plus the backlight does drain quite a bit of power. In fact, once you’ve used a backlit keyboard, you’ll wonder how you ever managed with an unlit keyboard. Backlit keyboards are great for typing in low light levels much easier. This Satechi keyboard has backlit keys with three levels of brightness. It certainly saves on desktop space if you’re using more than one computer or tablet, and the addition of the numeric keypad is indispensable for anyone who spends time working with spreadsheets. All you have to do is press one of the three Bluetooth buttons and the keyboard hot switches over to one of the other devices.

For example, you can use the keyboard on a Mac, then switch to let it control a Windows laptop, and finally, the third channel could be used to type on an iPad.
